Josh Writes

Small boy with big dreams.

How our writing has changed…

This all began with homeschooling. Around the first few months, we didn’t even write essays. We learned Stock Market, Tamil, and Guitar. That was it. Just learning. Later on, we came to realize how useful writing actually is.

Soon my dad came up with the idea of “essays”. We were going to write these essays every day. That was the first step of the whole process. For a while, we wrote the essay only for ourselves and we didn’t share it with anybody else.

Soon my dad told us about this app called “Substack”. My dad made us accounts mine being “JoshSays” and my brother’s “JerrySays”

After we had created our Substack, our dad asked us to choose a day in the week to post every week. I chose Friday and my brother chose Monday.

At first, we didn’t have a schedule but soon we started developing a process before scheduling.

STEP #1

We write essays in the notebook. That’s the first step. The reason for this is that we can easily copy what we wrote in the notebook to Substack. The reason this is helpful is that you don’t think about what to write and how to write on the computer itself. This will be a waste of time and as devices are the natural habitat for distractions, I won’t be able to concentrate.

STEP #2

We copy it down to Substack. We don’t care about mistakes, we just go and write them straight down onto Substack. Just copy down word to word. This will be a much quicker step than the previous one.

STEP #3

We now go and fix mistakes. We use a website called Grammarly. It’s an amazing website to go over your mistakes. Sometimes I use a grammatically incorrect word without realizing it. The worst part is that I think it is correct because I use it in my speech.

These are the three steps, or rather the three drafts I write before posting it on Substack.
