Note: These vikings weren’t united as a country, in fact they had their own seperate clans.
An ordinary viking’s homeland was Scandinavia or mordern day Norway, Denmark and Sweden. Before their ruthlessness they used to be into agriculture. But what led them to conquer so many lands? Through time the population of the iking grew leading to less fertile land for all of them. So some of the vikings built the longboats which might be familiar to you. Their first victim was an english monastery on the coast of britain. But why do vikings always go for monasteries? The reason behind that is that monasteries are basically lootboxes. They have little to no security and they have insane loot.
So what made them victorious is manu battles? It was bravery but not exactly. Its mainly because of their beliefs. In their pagan religion there’s a god called Odin. If you die in battle you simply earn a seat in Odin’s table. High honour for the vikings. This was the reason they were so courageous to go into battles.
Now how do we know about these vikings? Its because of written text which was written around 13 century. Althought it won’t be that accurate since it was most probably written by the victims of the vikings. Because of that they will paint the vikings in a fierce barbaric manner. This was also to show how civilized christians are compared to vikings.
Now what ended the reign if the vikings? Believe it or not, it was christianity.
Now how did a religion destroy vikings? Well its because all the vikings believed in more than one god, and seeing that there are people who worship only one god, they don’t like them. But some vikings actually accepted christianity while others didn’t. In fact there was a duel between the pagan vikings and the christian ones. Both the religions make a fire and if a pagan walked through both the fires, the pagans win. But if the pagan can’t walk through the christian’s fire that means christianity is superior. Obviously the christians won which is why almost all the vikings stopped fighting.
The last king of the vikings wanted to capture england back so he marched to britain. The only problem was that because of the frequent viking attacks, all the cities had upscaled their security. Then the last king was so certain of himself that he left many if his troops back. Then he saw the mighty army of england all armed and you would probably guess who won.
