What is Attribution Error?

Attribution error is when people mistakenly attribute an event or outcome to a specific factor or person. This can lead to faulty conclusions and decisions.

For example, let’s imagine a CEO sees an employee arriving late at work. He would blame the employee for not being punctual, as any average person would do. Making the mistake of assuming that it is his character’s fault. Now imagine from the employee’s point of view. He would have arrived late because of traffic and was usually been a punctual employee. You see? Attribution Error can harm the relationship with the someone and maybe even make you lose out on a valuable person just because we assume about someone.

There’s also two types of attribution error. It is when you use attribution error on yourself and the other is when you use attribution error on someone else. Now let us look at the consequences of Attribution Error.
