Last year we had a summer camp. I had lots and lots of fun so when I heard the news that Net Solutions (the company my father works for) was hosting another summer camp, I was thrilled!
Of course, one thing that added to the excitement was the fact that I had no idea what the activities would be.
When the day came, we got ready and headed to Net Solutions. We were led to a large room with a black box and a table with a laptop in front. There were chairs facing against them. There were already many kids sitting on the chairs, all coloring in a book. We also sat on a chair and started coloring. A photographer walked around taking photos.
The First Event
After a bit of coloring, the main event started. They turned all the chairs around so that we face the front of the room with the mysterious black box. We found out that the box will be used for puppet shows. During the puppet show, many famous cartoon characters were there, dancing or talking to the audience. Characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Peppa Pig, Chota Bheem, Mottu Pattlu etc. Some of them even asked us to dance with them!
The puppet show was fun but honestly, thinking back, I didn’t know I’d have so much more fun! Next the kids were divided into two groups. “Under the age of 9 group” & “in the age of 10 – 15 group” I didn’t really know why they would do that at that time but my question was answered in the next program.
How to make websites.
Yes, that was actually the real event. I was surprised to, and man I had so much fun in this event. First of course there was a presentation on how a net solutions team makes websites for their clients. They showed us their team and their client. Their client was a company called “Hancocks” which is a confectionary company. Then their team. It included:
- 2 Front-End Developers
- 2 Back-End Developers
- 2 Cloud engineers
- 2 Quality Testers
- 2 UI/UX designers
Following their presentation, we were given a game. We were all givenprinted sheets of a website page and a pencil. What we had to do is find the mistakes. I found like all the mistakes I would say but some kids were observant enough to identify even the little mistakes which I’m sure weren’t intention. Like how in an image the price was 50 rupees but it was priced as 299 Rupees in the title. But I had loads of fun in this presentation and in this game because of how interesting the topic was.
Anyway this event took more time than the organizers expected so we were rushed along before the second game, now we had to do:
Painting a sillouhette
I don’t think I have to explain this activity. It is simple enough but this too was a pleasant activity. I wouldn’t say it was “fun” because it felt like this activity was peaceful and enjoyable rather than active and fun. Nevertheless, it was one of my favorite activities of the day.
We were first asked to choose two colors, one dark and one light and paint the dark one at the top half of the canvas and the light one on the bottom half. After doing it, we simply used black paint to make a electrical pole.I even added a chair as decor. Needless to say, I was satisfied with my painting.
Our next event was:
Planting a plant
This was probably an activity I wasn’t expecting. There was a huge bucket of soil, and we were all given small pots. We sat down and used a shovel to take soil from the bucket and fill up our pots. We were ordered to only fill up 7/8th of the pot. After that we used our fingers to make a hole in the soil where we kept our plants. After that we were given some stones and decorative items to decorate our plants.
It was fun but it ended really fast, the same as the last activity.
Handprint painting
The funny thing was, at first I thought this was only for kids. I thought this because only kids did it at that time. Only my brother kept telling me it was for us too. After a while I realized that it was for us too so I did it. I was one of the last few people to do it so I reached the cafeteria late.
They gave McDonald’s and you know we can’t refuse that! After eating, we played carom with 2 other kids and another Net-Soul member.
After that we returned home with all of the stuff we had made with Sathinder Uncle who dropped us (thank you if you are reading this).
Honestly, I feel like this summer camp had a them of creation. We first created something digitally, then we created something artistic then we created something natural, more than that we also made some fun memories. Oh and the Net-Soul team did an amazing job, I especially liked the website presentation, so thanks to them too!
Thanks for reading my blog! I post a blog every Friday so stay tuned!
